Innovative Waste Heat Utilization Concept for TRIMET Aluminium

Energieanlagen Greifswald GmbH (EAG) is pleased to announce a new major contract for an exciting project on waste heat utilization at TRIMET Aluminium SE in Essen.
TRIMET operates a smelting electrolysis plant in Essen for aluminum production with three flexible electrolysis lines and a foundry. One of these lines has been flexibilized for load control by +/- 25 MW and requires a system for operation-dependent cooling and insulation of the electrolysis cells. The resulting waste heat is intended to be fed into a district heating network in the future.

Following a conceptual study on the utilization of waste heat from the fan stations of the electrolysis, the foundry was also identified as a potential source of waste heat. A short study identified a potential of 2.5 MW of waste heat capacity and 13 GWh/a of waste heat quantity.
Based on these preliminary investigations, an innovative overall concept for the utilization of both sources of waste heat has now been developed. EAG has been commissioned with the planning and implementation of this concept. The waste heat is intended to be used both for feeding into the district heating network and for self-use for the internal heat supply of the plant.
We are very excited about this challenging project and the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in industrial plant construction and execution planning. With tailor-made solutions from a single source, we contribute to resource-saving and sustainable energy utilization.

The contract is sealed with a handshake

45 Megawatts for Brandenburg an der Havel

EAG has just completed the preparations for integrating the waste-to-energy plant in Premnitz into the district heating network in Brandenburg an der Havel, and the next phase of the project is already beginning for the EAG team on-site. On July 7th, during the kickoff meeting, the specific details for the upcoming work were discussed. The unusually tight schedule and the challenge of working at two locations simultaneously are notable aspects of this project. Due to the expansion of the network and the resulting increase in heat demand, an additional 45 MWth (megawatts thermal per hour) of supply capacity will be created.

This heat, available in the form of steam at the waste-to-energy plant in Premnitz, will be injected into the transport line using steam condensers. Subsequently, the heat transfer will occur in the power plant in Brandenburg through tube heat exchangers into the district heating network. Both locations will be equipped with network pumps, with the main operation taking place at the Heat Transfer Station (Wärmeüberträgerstation) in Premnitz, where the preference is for the use of a turbo pump.

Pilot Project: Large Heat Pumps in District Heating Networks

The project "Large Heat Pumps in District Heating Networks" is part of the state-funded "Real-world Laboratories of the Energy Transition" and aims to test the use of large heat pumps, providing a framework for an efficient and ecological operational concept. The experts from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE seek not only technical insights but also to analyze how large heat pumps can be established in the district heating market.

At five locations in Germany, large heat pumps will be integrated into existing district heating networks by 2026. The power plant in Mannheim is one of these locations and will now be managed by Energieanlagen Greifswald. As part of the project, EAG takes on the planning, construction, manufacturing, transportation, and assembly, as well as the trial operation and documentation for the pipeline system to be produced.

The project includes the installation of a heat pump system in Mannheim that will utilize river water from the Rhine as a heat source for supplying the district heating network. This heat pump system is expected to provide a thermal capacity of approximately 20 MWth (megawatts thermal per hour) and raise the return temperature of the district heating network from 60°C to a supply temperature of 90°C to 130°C.

Through this pilot project, we at EAG hope to make a significant contribution to the energy transition. We are eagerly anticipating the outcomes!

Germany's Largest Solar Thermal System

In late November 2021, EAG began prefabricating the pipeline systems for Germany's largest solar thermal system. In addition to the complete pipeline system for the heat transfer station and its measuring devices, EAG also installed two heat exchangers.

Since June 18, 2022, the system has been in operation. With an area of over 4 hectares, hosting approximately 3,800 solar panels covering around 18,000 m², the facility can inject up to 11 MWh into the district heating network on summer days, covering the basic load for the city of Greifswald. This can supply energy to more than 800 households annually.

The official inauguration will take place on September 15, 2022, at the Stadtwerke Greifswald premises. We, the Energieanlagen Greifswald GmbH, are honored to be invited to the event, where Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Dr. Robert Habeck and/or Parliamentary State Secretary Michael Kellner, as well as the Minister President of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ms. Manuela Schwesig and the Lord Mayor of Greifswald Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, are expected to attend.

Energieanlagen Greifswald GmbH Certified to New Quality Management System DIN EN ISO 9001:2015

From March 26 to March 29, 2018, this year's Periodic Audit took place. As one of the first companies, EAG GmbH successfully passed the audit for the new quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 during these days. The suitability of the integrated management system according to the SCC regulations (SCC**/SCP) was also confirmed in the audit. Thus, DNV GL confirms that the business activities of EAG GmbH, especially the planning, engineering, and installation services in pipeline and plant construction, as well as the provision of workers according to AÜG, comply with the new guidelines.
The new standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 places even more emphasis on customer satisfaction than the previous version. This is made possible through continuous optimization of business processes. Since the implementation of the described processes, all involved parties (stakeholders such as suppliers, customers, shareholders, employees, as well as banks and insurance companies) have been more closely involved in the planning and production processes. EAG Secures New Client in the Field of Decentralized Energy Supply

In December 2017, ENGIE Deutschland GmbH commissioned Energieanlagen Greifswald GmbH (EAG) to handle the piping of heating water, gas, and cooling systems in their new combined heat and power plant in Gera Tinz (Thuringia). The scope of delivery and services for EAG includes approximately 1200 meters of pipelines up to DN 400, about 200 fittings, heat exchangers, and secondary steel construction. The work is expected to be completed by autumn 2018. To achieve these goals, the contracting parties are relying on a collaborative partnership.
The modern combined heat and power plant consists of 5 gas engines (each 4.5 MWel) and 3 hot water generators (each 20 MWth) and is one of 2 CHP plants ENGIE is constructing in Gera.
EAG is particularly pleased to acquire a new customer, ENGIE Deutschland GmbH, in the field of combined heat and power plants. This strategic direction will continue to be expanded.
